Located in the northernmost portion of Cherokee County, near the Pickens County line, Ball Ground, like Canton, Woodstock, and Holly Springs, enjoys a great location along I-575. With just over 1,000 residents, this close-knit, friendly community is bound by an interesting heritage. Legend has it that the Cherokee Indians met here during an earlier century to play a game resembling lacrosse. Today, an entirely different community has gathered to enjoy the same great location. Contemporary Ball Ground is regionally known as a quiet, peaceful community. Local residents are most proud of their town’s charming downtown district. This turn-of-the-century area has changed little since the 1920s and is still brimming with several elegant historic homes. Ball Ground is also home to Gibbs Botanical Gardens, the Cherokee branch of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
